Nigeria’s contingent to the fifth Commonwealth Youth Games, which ended in Samoa last weekend arrived in Abuja yesterday after a brilliant performance.
Team Nigeria finished seventh out of 62 countries which featured in the championship having amassed six gold, two silver and three bronze medals.
The Director, Grassroots Sports Development, National Sports Commissionn (NSC), Dr Ademola Are while receiving the contingent at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport showered encomium on the young athletes.
Are said despite been represented by 13 athletes, they displayed a never-give-up Nigerian spirit adding that they are proud of them
The leader of Team Nigeria to the Games, Deputy-Director of Grassroots Sports, Shuwa Umar Talba explained that the athletes were determined and disciplined throughout the Games.
Nigeria’s weightlifter at the Games, Emmanuel Appah, who won a silver in the 62Kg category said he was happy to win a medal for the country.
Appah clinched a silver in the 62Kg category falling behind India’s Deepak Lather.
