Nigeria’s Greco Roman coach, Godswill Tiebiri at the concluded 11th All Africa Games in Brazzaville Congo, has emerged one of the few wrestling coaches to have won gold medals during their active participation as an athlete and coach.
In 1995, Godswill Tiebiri had won a gold medal at the 6th All-Africa Games in Harare, Zimbabwe.
The Greco roman coach said he was astonished as Emmanuel Nworie won a gold medal during the just concluded games.
“Before the games, the Nigeria wrestling federation had wanted to invite a foreign Greco roman coach to mentor the wrestlers, but due to the confidence the president (Igali) had in the coaching crew, he suspended the idea and agreed to await the outcome of the games. And i’m happy we did not fail the president” Tiebiri said.
“For Ituru Oke (Silver medalist 66Kg), Abraham Onyemelusi (Bronze medalist 80Kg) and Samuel Nathaniel (Bronze medalist 85Kg), we are going to pay more attention on them to see what they have to offer” noted Tiebiri
The Greco Roman coach advised all the medalist not to relent as the battle for the Olympics slot just began
