Ahead of the Rio 2016 Olympics qualifiers Nigeria Wrestling Federation (NWF) female head coach, Purity Akuh has expressed great confidence that all the female wrestlers will be at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.
The Africa Championships from March 2 to March 7 in Alexandria, Egypt is a prerequisite for Olympic Games.
Purity who guided Odunayo Adekuoroye to her first ever World Wrestling bronze medal said Nigeria possess great crop of female wrestlers affirming that they will all qualify for the Olympics.
He said the categories that will participate in are; 48kg, 58kg, 63kg, 69kgand 75 adding that the 53kg was excluded because Adekuoroye has qualified already by winning a bronze medal at the World Wrestling Championship.
It will be recalled that at the 11th All Africa Games held in Congo Brazzaville, all 8 female wrestlers were in the finals, winning 5 gold and 3 silver.
‘If you may recall, i promised before the All Africa Games that we were going to winning all the medals and through God it was possible. As long as God liveth Nigeria female wrestlers will all be at the Olympics and am sure WE will win medals for Nigeria’ said purity.
Purity noted that his job is to guide and tutor the wrestler stressing that wrestlers needs to replicate all that has been taught during training.
It is worthy of note that the Ondo state coach led Odunayo Adekuoroye as she secured a slot for the Olympics by winning a bronze medal at the World Wrestling Championship in Las Vegas USA, won another bronze at the World Grand Prix held in Baku, Azerbaijan and crowning the year 2015 by winning first place with her Indian team, Mumbai Garudu at the maiden edition of the Professional Wrestling League.
