Catherine won the only Gold medal during 2003 Coja African game.
She also won two (2) Bronze medals at 1999 and 2007 African games respectively.
She also competed in The West African University games (WAGU) and several Nigeria University Games (NUGA), representing the University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State and University if Port-court and recorded lots of laurels.
She competed in the women’s lightweight category through her competing era.

Ekuta qualified for the two-member Nigerian judo squad in the women’s lightweight class (57 kg) at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, by placing second at the overall medal table from Olympic qualifications.
She also won medals at other African championships including Tunis, South Africa and many other African championships.
Catherine Ekuta-Ewa was tipped to win a medal before she represented Nigeria in the Judo event of the Athens 2004 Olympic Games.
Catherine Ewa Ekuta is a principal coach at the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Akwa Ibom, Nigeria.
She has also Coached Judo at Kingsley College Biddeford, Devon. United Kingdom, and coached the University of Port Harcourt during 2004 (NUGA) games where the JUDO team took the first position.
Currently studying at iSR Academy, Incheon Global Campus, Korea.
She graduated from University of Exeter, with MSc, in Sports and Health science (2007 – 2008)
She was also a part of Plymouth Judo County team squad 2008, where she won two gold medals. Catherine has trained at Bath University, UK, and at several other clubs in Germany and Cuba just to mention a few.
