Rio 2016 Olympics; Presidential AAG Snub “may” hinder athletes better outing

All Africa Games Contingents

Neglect of presidency to reward athletes that won medals for Nigeria at the last All Africa Games hosted in Congo, Brazzaville may hinder the excellent outing of the athletes in Rio 2016 Olympics, naijacombatcorner can report.

It will be recalled that team Nigeria at the 2015 All Africa Games won a total number of 144 medals consisting of 47 gold, 55 Silver and 42 bronze.

But the presidency decided to honor individuals and athletes that won laurels for the country in 2015 without the All Africa Games victorious contingents.

Information gathered by naijacombatcorner revealed that the National Sports Commission is said to use athletes that represented Nigeria in Congo 2015 AAG to prepare for the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Some aggrieved athletes who spoke on the condition of anonymity to naijacombatcorner expressed disappointment over the snub just as a relieve that it may affect their outing in Brazil.

They blamed the NSC for not making proper recommendation to the presidency to include them among the beneficiary of President Muhammadu Buhari’s largess adding that Nigeria may witness a more disappointing outing than the 2012 Olympics

“We are getting set for the Olympics qualifier and the NSC is not saying anything about the reward. This not acceptable as it simply means that we are not important to the nation” they said.

“Till now most of us train in homes with our personal funds just to see that we remain fit and qualify for the nation. But the appropriate bodies are not making life easy for us because most of our opponents in other African countries are either in various camps or embarking on tours’, they asserted.

They however called on the Presidency, NSC, the House Committee on Sports in the senate and house of representative to see to their plights and provide necessary motivation as they prepare for qualifiers.
