The Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Sports, Rep. Goni Lawan has condemned the purported move to by some quarters of the ministry of Youth and Sports to scrap the National Sports Commission.
The lawmaker stated this while reacting to the resignation of Super Eagles Head Coach, Sunday Oliseh.
It will be recalled that a committee was constituted to look into how to harmonize the operations of the ministry.
Lawan said in any developing country, they have the Ministry of Sports and the National Sports Commission.
He added that there is no reason why Federal Government would want to scrap the National Sports Commission stressing that it is not for both sportsmen and administrators.
Lawan attributed bureaucracy as the main issue facing the area of sporting activities
Lawan, however, blamed the non-payment of the allowances on bureaucracy.
“Even in the 36 states they have their Ministry of sports, Commissioners and Sports Commission”, he concluded.
