The Nigeria Wrestling Federation (NWF) has selected Eight (8) female wrestlers who will represent the country at the 2016 African Wrestling Championships in Alexandria, Egypt from 4th to the 6th of March 2016.
The list of female wrestlers consists of 3 Commonwealth Gold medalists, 1 Commonwealth silver medalist, 2 Commonwealth Bronze medalist and All Africa Games medalist.
The female wrestlers are Adekuoroye Odunayo, Adeniyi Aminat, Oborududu Blessing, Rueben Hannah, Onyebuchi Blessing, Nweke Rosemary, Genesis Mercy and Nwoye Ifeoma.
Nwoye Ifeoma who gave Nigeria Wrestling Federation its first gold medal at the 2010 commonwealth games will feature at the African Wrestling Championships.
Ondo state duo, Adekuoroye Odunayo and Adeniyi Aminat won gold medals a piece for the nation at the 2014 Commonwealth games held in Glasgow, Scotland.
Adekuoroye won a bronze medal at the 2010 commonwealth games in the 48Kg
Adekuoroye also won double bronze medals at the 2015 World Wrestling Championship held in Las Vegas, USA and the Golden Grand Prix held in Baku Azerbaijan.
Africa most consistent wrestler, Blessing Oborududu plans to set a new record by winning her seventh Africa title.
It will be recalled that at the 2015 All Africa Games, the female wrestlers won a total of 5 Gold medals and 3 silver.
Debutant at the All Africa Games, Mercy Genesis was rewarded for her consistency.
Other Nigeria female wrestlers will work hard to join Odunayo Adekuoroye as she is the only Africa female wrestler who has qualified for the 2016 Rio Olympics.
