The minister of health, Professor Isaac Adewole has said gender mainstreaming into National health agenda policies remains the Federal Government core change agenda.

Professor Isaac Adewole stated this at the inauguration ceremony of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) women and sports commission in Abuja.

Adewole said in order to give better visibility to gender issues in the National health agenda, the Federal Government through the Federal Ministry of Health established the Gender desk.

He added that the desk has been actively involved in ensuring that gender issues are mainstreamed into all health policies and programmes as captured in the gender policy.

He noted that Poverty, heavy domestic demands, safety concerns, inadequate sport and recreation facilities amongst other inadequacies frequently prevent women’s participation in physical activities and sports.

He however urged the 19 members of the committee to mobilize all their strengths, influences and internal reserves, to galvanize the needed impetus that will drive the roadmap to a new world of sports for Nigerian women and girls.

He recalled that at the  1992 Barcelona Olympics, 32 countries sent only male competitors stressing that there is a great need to aggressively mobilize women into sporting activities.
