Board members of the Nigeria Judo Federation (NJF) have passed a vote of no confidence on embattled president, Hon Timothy Nsirim.
It will be recalled that Eight (8) member’s board member of the NJF on 14th July, 2014, impeached Hon. Nsirim.
According to a board member, Segun Gbayi (athlete representative) said out of nine (9) members, eight (8) were in agreement of Nsirim’ impeachment.
Gbayi explained that according to Swiss Law, only a black belter has the opportunity to become president of any judo federation stressing that its quite unfortunate that since the inauguration of the NJF in 2013 they have not been able to fulfill the obligation.
He added that since 2013 board members have only sat twice.
“It is not a matter of division among the board members, we stood firm on our decision but some top government officials waded into the issue because of the embattled president political status”, Gbayi noted
He said after the impeachment, a senior officer (name withheld) in the National Sports Commission appealed to them (board members) to be patient with Nsirim by giving him three (3) to amend his ways, but all fell on deaf ears.
The board member highlighted that the Judo federation has been accused by some Asian embassy of Visa racketeering pointing out that the federation cannot be attended to by some selected embassy in the country.
“After the 2015 All Africa Games, some board members were called by some Asianembassy of alleged visa racketeering and they told us that if we don’t fish out those involved our judokas will not be granted Visa into their country” He said.
Also speaking, a board member (North Central), Sulaimon Damisa said the recognized president is Musa Oshodi.
Alhaji Damisa noted that it is disheartening that the dear game Judo is almost facing extinction as veteran cannot fold their arms to the injustice to performing athletes.
They called on the minister of sports, Solomon Dalung to wade into the ongoing saga that has enveloped the federation adding that veteran judokas have good intentions to develop the sport Judo.
