Africa Open bubbles without Nigeria Judokas, as Africa nations wins 11 medals

The African nations won eleven medals this weekend at the African Open in Casablanca.

On Sunday two gold medals were added to the great gold of Emmanuel Nartey on Saturday.

Abderrahmame Benamadi (Algeria) who captured victory in the category U90kg final defeated Azeri Mammadali Mehdiyev.

It was not the only medal for Algeria as Lyes Bouyacoub took bronze U100kg where Benjamin Fletcher (GBR) won the gold medal. Bouyacoub won his match against Zlatko Kumric (CRO) while Kaouthar Ouallal won bronze U78kg.

The fourth Algerian medal was for Sonia Asselah, she lost the final +78kg against Maryna Slutskaya (BLR) and Monica Sagna of Senegal won bronze.

Host nation Morocco won the gold medal for women U70kg, her third World Cup victory ever.

In Casablanca she defeated Chantal Wright of the USA in a pool with just five women also Sanaa Mandar won the bronze medal match.

In the men’s heavyweight category Ushangi Kokauri won gold against Cedric Medeuf. Mustapha Abdellaoui of Morocco won bronze for the host.

Nigeria Judokas have now missed two crucial tournaments; the international Tournament of Yaoundé in Cameroon held from 5th-6th March, 2016 and the African Open.

There are also strong indications that the Nigeria Judo Federation will again miss the Senegal (Judo) Tournament scheduled for 26th-27th March, 2016.
