2016 Nigeria Police Games; Zone 2 emerges Police Games winner

The Zone 2 police command has emerged the over-all winners of the 11th edition of the biennial Police Games, held in Abuja.

Zone 2 , comprising Lagos and Ogun state garnered a total of 231 medals, made up of 96 gold, 77 silver and 58 bronzes to dethrone Force Headquarters (FHQ) who finished the Games on second spot with 159 medals consisting of 70 gold, 41 silver and 48 bronze medals at the end of the games.

The Inspector-General of Police, Solomon Arase said the Games have strengthened the spirit of unity within the force on one hand and the other invited participants on the other hand.

He urged the officers and men of the force the use the opportunity provided by the Games and the spirit of sportsmanship displayed during the competition in the discharge of the responsibilities as police officers.

Bayelsa state governor, Seriake Dickson commended the police for hosting successful Games, noting that the police had provided some of the athletes that represented the country at international competitions.

Zone 11 police command comprising of Oshogbo, Osun, Ondo and Oyo finished the Games as third best team with 56 gold, 44 silver and 69 bronze medals.

The fourth position went to Zone 5 with 45 gold, 37 silver and 42 bronzes, Zone 6 finished fifth with 35 gold, 42 silver and 62 bronze medals, while the Zone 6 command, with 21 gold, 29 silver and 33 bronzes placed sixth on the final table.

The Games which started on March 19 at the National Stadium Abuja, saw about 3200 competitors from the 12 police zonal commands slug it out in 28 sporting events.
