Ali grabs Onyebuchi (75Kg)

Cameroon’s Annabel Laure Ali have secured her third successive Olympic Games at the just concluded Africa-Oceania Wrestling qualifying tournament held at the Mohamed Boudiar Olympic Complex in Algiers.

Cameroon’s Ali, a Commonwealth Games silver medallist, edged out Nigeria’s Blessing Joy Onyebuchi 4-3 in their under 75kg semi-final to confirm her place.

She then enjoyed a similarly tight 5-4 victory over Egypt’s Samar Hamza in the final.

Ali Annabel roared from behind with a pair of gut wrenches in the final minute of the day’s finale for a 5-4 win over Africa champion Samar Hamza (EGY), avenging a loss at the African championships in early March.

Meanwhile a hungry Blessing Onyebuchi defeated Shantelle Thompson by Technical Fall (12-0).

It will be recalled that Egypt’s Samar Hamza on her way to victory at the Africa championship, won Onyebuchi by 8-4 points.
