Road to Rio; Nigeria Wrestlers begins training


Naijacombatcorner can reliably report that seven Olympic-bound wrestlers of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation (NWF) have resumed camping exercise at the Den Gymnasium in Yenagoa.

It will be recalled that prior to the 2016 African Wrestling Championship and the African/Oceania Rio Olympic Games qualifier, Igali sponsored the team before the official national camp.


In a chat with Naijacombatcorner, Technical Director Nigeria Wrestling Federation, Sir Ohaike Damian said the Nigeria wrestling federation and the ministry of youth and sports are both involved in convening the training camp.

He added that the federation is targeting to break the Olympics jinx by winning medals in Rio.

The technical director explained that the camping was aimed at putting them in shape,ahead of the national open


He noted that the Olympic-bound wrestlers and their sparing partners are in camp.

The 2016 Summer Olympic Games will be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.


The Nigeria Wrestling federation will present seven wrestlers for the Games comprised two men and five women namely;  Amas Daniel,  Soso Tamarau, Odunayo Adekuoroye, Hannah Reuben, Mercy Genesis, Blessing Oborududu and Aminat Adeniyi.

National Head coach, Victor Kodei, female national coach, Purity Akuh and Greco Roman coach, Godswill Tiebiri are also present in camp
