Former National champion, Rita Aina was adjudged the best referee at the third edition of the Hajiya Zainab Saleh International Female Karate Championship held at the Molade Okoya-Thomas Hall of the Teslim Balogun Stadium.
An elated Rita who spoke with naijacombatcorner said the award was an unexpected one as she is indeed happy and grateful to God.
She promised to give her best in the officiating of the sport karate.
“I feel happy it was an unexpected award”, she said.
On the forthcoming 16th African Junior/Senior Karate Championships in Durban, South Africa, she said definitely Nigeria officials will be in attendance considering the fact that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Executive Board has recommended the inclusion of the sport.
“I will be at the Africa championship to update myself. When am back into the country seminars will be organized in order to impact new techniques on the athletes and officials updated on the latest scoring points”, the sport administrator said
The third edition featured over 100 female karate athletes in competition for honours in Brown and Black, Green, Blue, White and Yellow belts.
Nigeria was represented by athletes from 10 states across the federation and 12 martial arts clubs.
