Cameroon’s Hassan N’Dam battled through to the semi-finals of the light heavyweight division at the World Series of Boxing (WSB)/AIBA Pro Boxing (APB) Olympic Qualification Tournament with victory over American Jonathan Esquivel in Vargas.
N’Dam, a former World Boxing Organisation interim middleweight champion who is one of the leading names competing in the event at the Jose Maria Vargas Dome, produced a superb display to clinch a unanimous triumph.
All three judges scored the bout in his favour and the Cameroonian, a quarter-finalist at the Athens 2004 Olympic Games, will go on to face Ukrainian Solonenko Denys in the last four.
World Championships silver medallist Jonghun Shin, who competed for South Korea at London 2012, progressed as he overcame Nazar Kurotchyn of Ukraine, who represented the Ukraine Otamans in the WSB, in the light flyweight category.
Joselito Velasquez of Mexico, who beat home hope Rafael Martinez in his quarter-final, awaits in the next round for the South Korean.
