Rio Olympics; John Ampomah named Team Ghana Captain

Team Ghana Captian, John Ampomah

John Ampomah has been named Team Ghana Captain and 100m sprinter Flings Owusu-Agyapong, the flag bearer for the Opening Ceremony respectively by the Chef de Mission, Chris Essilfie.

The 100 meters runner will lead Ghana’s contingent on Thursday at the 78,000 Maracana Stadium.

The sprinter will be competing in the Women’s 100 meters event for Ghana.

Ghana will be competing in 5 disciplines thus Athletics (Track and Field), Judo, Swimming, Boxing and Weightlifting.

Ghana had 16 representatives for the Rio De Janeiro Olympic Games two swimmers, Kaya Ama Forson and Abeiku Jackson.

Also Sean Safo-Antwi will be representing Ghana in the men 100m, after switching camp from Great Britain.

Emmanuel Dasor made a qualifying time and a personal best of 20.49s in the 200m and part of the team.

Weightlifter Christian Amoah was also giving the nod by the weight lighting federation after the team earned a slot in their last qualification.

Gemma Acheampong, Beatrice Gyaman, Dorcas Gyimah, Persis William-Mensah will also compete in the 4×100 race where Ghana is likely to win a medal being ranked seventh in the world.

Boxer Abdul Wahid Omar  was a wild card selection to represent team Ghana after the three representatives failed to make an Olympic qualification mark in Ivory Coast.
