Olympics: Dalung bows to pressure, approves wrestling partners trip

Less than 7 days to the wrestling event at the games, the ministry of sports headed by Barrister Solomon Dalung on Saturday bowed to superior powers by approving the trip of wrestling partners to aid team Nigeria preparations.

Naijacombatcorner recalled that the president Nigeria wrestling federation, Hon Daniel Igali said  the country should not expect any medal-winning performance from the seven wrestlers if their training partners are not allowed to travel with them to the Games.

Naijacombatcorner learnt that since wrestling training began in Rio the coaches consisting of Victor Kodei, Purity Akuh, and Joe oziti have been sparring with the Olympians.

The Olympians consists of  five female: Mercy Genesis (48kg), Odunayo Adekuoroye (53kg), Aminat Adeniyi (58kg), Blessing Oborududu (63kg) and Hannah Reuben (69Kg) as well as two male; Amas Daniel (65kg) and Soso Tamarau (97kg)

According to Igali, the wrestlers should in a couple of days to beef up the wrestlers training camp.

The 2000 Sydney gold medalist said in elite sports little things matters a lot emphasising that the nation must pass through due process and not to depend on luck.

The president noted that he was already beginning to take a toll on them.

In time past, he warned that the Federal Government or anyone for that matter cannot put the country’s wrestlers under pressure.
