Boxing: When will Nigeria medal hopeful kick off his campaign in Rio?

Team Nigeria lone Boxer, Efe Ajagba (+91Kg) will begin his quest in Rio as he takes on Trinidad and Tobago’s Nigel Paul in the men’s super heavyweight category.

Ajagba, who had a bye from round 32, will fight Paul in the Round of 16 billed for Saturday, 13 August inside the Riocentro-Pavilion 6

Just like Ajagba, Trinidad and Tobago’s Nigel Paul also had a bye into the Round of 16.

A win for Ajagba will see him progress into the quarter-finals.

Meanwhile, the boxing events at this year’s Olympics, kicks off on Saturday, 6th August.

Ajagba won a gold medal for Team Nigeria at the last Africa Games in Congo Brazzaville in the super heavyweight 91+kg category.

Only Ajagba out of 10 Nigerian boxers was able to qualify for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games, as the rest failed to pick their spots at the International Boxing Association (AIBA) African Olympic qualifier held in Cameroon earlier this year.

Kenya’s light flyweight boxer, Peter Mungai Warui and Mauritius’ Kennedy St-Pierre are the only Africans in the Boxing event.

Meanwhile, the boxing events at this year’s Olympics, kicks off on Saturday, 6th August.
