Boxing; Kenya’s Warui bows to Cuban prodigy Argilagos in Rio

Cuba Boxer, Argilagos punches Kenya Peter Warui

Kenya’s medal hopeful, Peter Warui on Wednesday was defeated by Cuban prodigy Johanys Argilagos in the Olympic Light Flyweight.

Experienced Warui was dazzled and left to chase shadows by Argilagos to reach the light-flyweight semi-finals and thereby guarantee himself at least a bronze medal.

The teenage heir apparent to the great tradition of the Cuban ring dazzled his way to the first boxing medal of these Games.

It will be gold, more likely, for this 19-year-old to add to the world amateur title he holds already.

Argilagos landed lightning punches at will as he moved like a miniature Muhammad Ali, even throwing in his version of the famous Shuffle en route to an overwhelming points victory.

It is worthy to note that Peter Mungai Warui beat China’s Lu Bin during the Men’s Light Fly (46-49kg)
