It took Nigeria lone Boxer, Efe Ajagba less than a minute to knock out Trinidad and Tobago’s Nigel Paul in round one of the Men’s super heavyweight (91+kg) – Round of 16.
The 2015 African Games champion having qualified for the quarterfinals and will now hope to replicate his second round form and possibly make the semis which guarantees an automatic medal of any colour.
The commonwealth bronze medalist used his height very well against Paul and he made sure he got the right connections he need with his punches.
Ajagba will be hoping to break Nigeria’s 20-year wait for a medal in the boxing event at the Olympics when he comes up against Ivan Dychko of Kazakhstan in the quarter final.
It will be recalled that Nigeria won a medal in boxing was in Atlanta 1996 when Duncan Dokiwari won a bronze medal.
