Team Nigeria lost the chance of appearing on the medals table alongside other African nations as, Kazakhstan’s Ivan Fyodorovich Dychko scattered the dream of Nigerian boxer, Efe Ajagba in the quarterfinal bout of the ongoing Rio Olympics.
Ajgaba lost to the Olympic bronze medalist, Dychko by unanimous decision of 28-29, 28-29, 28-29 in the super heavyweight +91kg category.
The commonwealth bronze medalist was tipped to win a medal of any color for Nigeria after his knock out performance against Trinidad and Tobago’s opponent Nigel Paul prior to the quarterfinal bout.
Ajagba who is Nigeria’s only boxer in Rio, lost all three rounds to Dychko as he failed to throw good punches in the last two rounds.
Naijacombatcorner recalls that Former African and Commonwealth boxing champion, Joe Lasisi predicted doom for lone boxer Efe Ajagba that qualified for the ongoing 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil.
Lasisi lamented that the country would be represented by just one boxer, Efe Ajagba, at the global games, saying it was shameful in spite of the array of talents in the country.
