Olympic debutants, Mercy Genesis (48Kg), Aminat Adeniyi (53Kg) and Hannah Reuben (69Kg) were on Wednesday humbled by their respective opponents in various categories at the ongoing wrestling event taking place in Rio.
In the 48Kg, Africa champion Mercy Genesis fell to polish Iwona Matkowska by Fall, 4-0 points as three-time world champion Eri Tosaka (JPN) secured an 8-3 victory over Sun Yanan (CHN) to reach the finals of the 48kg category against Stadnik.
Team Nigeria also recorded another causality in the 58Kg category, as Petra Maarit Olli (FIN) defeated Aminat Adeniyi (NGR) by 8-2 point
World No.2 Valeria Zholobova (RUS) defeated Aisuluu Tynybekova (KGZ) 4-1 to make the finals against Icho at 58kg.
Kaori Icho (JPN), a three-time Olympic champion, was dominant in the semifinals, beating past world champion Yuliya Ratkevich (AZE) 10-0 at 58kg.
If she wins gold tonight, she will become the first wrestler to win four Olympic gold medals.
The last causality of the day was Nigeria Army officer, Hannah Reuben who was defeated by Dorothy Erzsebet Yeats (CAN) by Technical Fall, 11-1 points
