Paralympics: Nigeria finally names athletes for Rio

The Nigeria Paralympic Committee in conjunction with the Federal Ministry of Sports has named 23 athletes and six coaches that will represent Nigeria at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games holding from September 7 to 18 in Brazil.

The committee said Nigeria will be competing in only athletics, powerlifting and table-tennis.

Media Officer of the Paralympic Committee of Nigeria, Patrick Ibeh who made the list available to newsmen said Nigeria would be competing in only three Sports where she has comparative advantage at the Games.

There are six athletes made up of five women and a male in the athletics events while 14 athletes (seven men and seven females) are to take part in powerlifiting events. Table-tennis has only three athletes (two men and a lady) representing the country.

Those listed in athletics are, Hannah Babalola, Eucharia Iyiazi, Lauritta Onye, Lovina Onyegbule, Flora Ugwunwa and Friday Aibangbe as the only male athlete. Patrick Aieto and Adekunle Adesoji are the coaches.

Those for powerlifting are Nsini Ben, Lucy Ejike, Ndidi Nwosu, Bose Omolayo, Josephine Orji, Esther Onyema and Latifat Tijani. Yakubu Adesokan, Roland Ezuruike, Abdulazeez Ibrahim, Nnamdi Innocent, Opeyemi Jegede, Paul Kehinde and Tolu-lope Taiwo are to compete in the men’s category.
