Kwara State Governor, Dr Abdulfatah Ahmed has promised that the Indoor Sports Hall of the State Stadium Complex in Ilorin would be upgraded to meet international standard.
Ahmed gave this assurance when he paid unscheduled visit to the complex to assess its repair needs.
The governor said the repair was necessitated by the need to upgrade the standard of facilities at the Indoor Hall in order to promote sports activities in the state.
He recalled that the stadium complex had been a hub of sports excellence in the past as many great sportsmen and women who had made Nigeria proud in the past were nurtured at the Ilorin stadium complex.
“Sport is a very important means for occupying youths in order to steer them away from crime and violence. Hence, my administration will leave no stone unturned in restoring the past glory of Kwara state in sports”, the governor said.
The state Commissioner for Sports, Alhaji Kanle Ayo, who accompanied the governor on the inspection visit, commended Governor Ahmed for his positive disposition to the development of Sports in the State.
Meanwhile, the Kwara Council of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has hailed Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed’s promise to renovate the dilapidated Indoor Sports Hall of the state Stadium Complex.
