Ondo’s sports heroes to be honored by Gov Mimiko

The Ondo State Government will honor athletes who won medals for the state in various sports at the 2012 National Sports Festival, a state official said in Akure.

The State Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Dayo Awude said that Governor  Olusegun Mimiko would host the athletes on September 20th in Akure.

He also said the governor would officially receive the state’s athletes who represented Nigeria at the just-concluded Rio 2016 Olympics in Brazil.

The state athletes are; Aminat Adeniyi, Odunayo Adekuoroye and their coach Purity Akuh.

Awude said the welfare of athletes remains important to the government and we will continue to do everything possible to encourage their development.

It is worthy to note that Team Ondo placed 6th on the overall medals table at the 2012 NSF in Lagos, winning 18 gold, 12 silver and 28 bronze, totalling 58 medals.
