Nigeria Judokas at the just concluded All Africa Games in Congo, Brazzaville. ‘THE WORST EVER. POSSIBLE COURSES’ by Francis Agber Adaa

FIGHT FOR CONTROL
It is said that a house divided against itself can not stand.
This has manifested before our very own eyes through the dismal performance of our sport at the 11th All African Games 2015. The fight for control set d pace for a woeful performance ever recorded.

THE CAMP
A 3 star hotel situated in Wuse, the heart of Abuja. The terrain is so busy that one began to wonder it’s convenience for a camp of this nature. There was not enough camping period, and then to add salt to injury, a touch not my anointed group of judokas conveniently influenced d training program to suit their tempo n style.
Two camp trials where conducted. The first was Randori while d second was Ne- waza. Never heard of a ne-waza trial until now. Well, judokas never had enough combatant exercise for exploits at the games.

THE UMARU MUSA FACTOR
When i made some noise concerning Coach Umaru’s inclusion in camp based on his technical soundness and number of players, it was as if I was a dog barking and a bone was thrown at me to shut me up. With 4 players on the team, Umaru Musa was only invited to “coolu temper” and later dropped just at d point of departure. Well, 2 out of d 3 bronze medals won came from his girls Franca Audu 52 kg and Fatima Bashir.48 kg.

” coach, now that u have been dropped, am not sure of winning d gold medal”.

These were Franca Audu’s words, and so it was. Only Umaru Musa would have been able to read their games and second them to victory. So should Umaru and his cohorts say ” ntoorrrrrr”? No! We will not because we love the game and will continue to speak out till d lost glory is recovered.

REFEREEING
Officially, only Prof. De-souza was to accompany d Nigerian judo team. However, Mrs Grace Dooter Gom somehow found her way to d games.

My worry here is, with all d IJF Referees we have, how come d French speaking countries carry along larger numbers of accompanying referees thereby dominating and suppressing our teams always?

This one man show of International referee participation will continue to make our IJF Referees only barge carriers without any impact on our international relevance.

If only we had more representation, maybe our judoka wouldn’t have been walked over. Sports politics.

Finally, it is very sad to let you know that judo is no longer a favorite sport when it comes to harvest of medals at international outings. We might never see d Olympics again unless we uproot all d cancerous cells in judo. We know una! I rest my case.

They called on the The Director-General, National Sports Commission (NSC), Mallam Alhassan Yakmut to wade into the issue to avert future occurrence of terrible outing
